troop letter: Bob, greetings from Manas
May 06, 2010
The items you are sending us are well
received, and right on the money.
Bob, greetings from Manas! We received two shipments of boxes--huge
deliveries--last week and talk about “welcome as rain.” With the surge
underway (and we are back to “normal” after the political difficulties off
base last month), we are serving record numbers of troops--58,000 passed
through our site in a 30 day period. The items you are sending us are well
received, and right on the money.
Also, given the fall out of the revolution, and the state of the economy off
base, we have used many of your items in local care packages for our
humanitarian assistance visits off base. Needy families, families of
victims who were shot during the revolution--in addition to the rice, flour
and cooking oil we offer them, they also receive a variety of snacks,
stuffed animals, etc., from your generous deliveries.
Though there are some in the country that are philosophically opposed to the
US being here, this has not translated to a personal dislike of
Americans--we are received as neighbors when we visit the local villages,
orphanages, and schools. And you and your staff are key players, right
alongside of our Airmen, in being good partners with our Kyrgyz neighbors.
Simply put, we couldn’t do this without you. You make a difference every
day.
Here is an example...in the link below, we offer gifts of condolence to the
families of slain men...and they include items you have sent us. We use the
boxes as well.

Hope this finds you well. Finally spring here...a beautiful country!
Take care,
Jim
