troop letter: cigars were great
December 18, 2009
but not stores or anything like that
Dear Bob,
Thank you for the care package that we received at JSS B this past week! We are located in Eastern Baghdad at a small Joint Security Station with relatively few comforts - just hot water and indoor restrooms, which are great, but not stores or anything like that.
I work on a 6-man advisory team that is focused on transitioning the responsibility of security in Baghdad from the US to the Iraqi Security Forces. Things are going quite well, not yet perfect, but we are making some very good headway. We are part of an infantry battalion (2nd Bn, 14th Infantry) which has been largely divided into advisory teams across much of the city.
If you do send more packages, the cigars were great - some of the snacks great—but if you can go a little lighter on the sweets/fatty stuff, that’d be awesome. We are a light infantry unit, and fitness is very important to us as you might imagine.
I truly admire what you do. Thanks for taking the time to do what you do. As our Army continues to fight these wars for what is coming to almost 8 years now, it really means a lot to receive things from people back home—thanks for caring and for thinking of us. We are proud to serve, as I am sure you were once too.
Thanks a lot and God Bless America.
Paul
